Do not be Bound with Unbelievers

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? … Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? – 2 Corinthians 6:14–15 –

The unity of the church depends upon the purity of the church. It cannot be a mix of believers and unbelievers. The true church is composed of those who surrender their self-righteousness and are clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. They are born again by the Spirit and walk in newness of life. They grieve their sin and continually cling to Christ for forgiveness.

The church should welcome unbelievers into their public gatherings to hear the preaching of the Word. However, they should not teach, lead, or participate in the direction of the church. Nor should Christians submit to the teaching of unbelievers who claim to be Christians. If they proclaim a false gospel, we reject their teaching. Allowing them to join the church is partnering with their dark, lawless deeds. True unity in the church will happen when it is no longer bound to unbelievers.
